ABOUT FAC

Fair Air Coalition (FAC)’s mission is to advocate for safe air as a basic human right and reduce public risks worldwide.

Fair Air Coalition (FAC) is a student-led organization developed after the launch of fAIR4all, a global campaign for improved air quality, at the United Nations (UN) in New York City on August 15th, 2015. Founder Pedro Piqueras, a PhD candidate at the University of California-Riverside, was awarded the Millennium Health Prize by the Millennium Campus Network for aiming to fulfill the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals #3, 5, 7, 9, 11, and 17 by 2030. FAC’s main goals are to establish further public awareness on air pollution, advance scientific progress, institute clean air standards, and reduce public risks starting in marginalized areas where the harm is greatest and technologies haven’t reached yet.

THE CURRENT ENVIRONMENT

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 7 million people died from air pollution exposure in 2012. This tragic fact equates to one in eight total global deaths – confirming that air pollution is now the world’s biggest environmental health risk. This outcome results from unsustainable policies and the lack of public education. Some countries still lack air pollution health standards and many people are not being taught how contaminated air leads to sickness.

OUR VISION

Fair Air Coalition (FAC) envisions a world where safe air is recognized as a vital human right, minimum air quality standards have been implemented, and access to clean air is recognized as a crucial component of health. We foresee a world where people can breathe freely without fear or concern.
